The finish is flawless, nary a tool mark to be found, and all for sumthin like three-hundred out the door 18 or so months ago. "My Rifle" as Finn Aagard would say, is a stainless / laminate M77 MkII in .270 Win. It's been bedded, triggered, and crowned by the legendary Ray Perry, and it normally shoots right at the one inch mark.
Both were the stainless and synthetic all weather models. While one was in .243 win and the other in .270 win. Both rifles were fairly accurate with most any factory ammo. Around 1.25-1.5" groups at 100 yards. With handloads or particular factory loads that they liked, they would both shoot .5" groups at 100.

None of the standard M-77 MK II based trigger assemblies have adjustment provisions for weight of pull, or sear engagement. Your triggers weight of pull will be determined, in most part, by 4 factors. #1 Sear/Trigger engagement angle. #2 Amount of this engagement. #3 Surface finish. #4 Weight necessary to compress the trigger spring.

My 1st rifle was a Ruger M77R in .243 which I let go in a stooper to get the 25-06 M77V (the heavy bbl varmint rifle they used to offer). Both were tang safety models.

The original 77's and the MK-II's are solid dependable rifles, but can have triggers that range from acceptable to awful out of the box. With a little tweaking most can be just fine. The original tang safety versions were hit or miss as far as accuracy goes. The Mk-II's are generally plenty accurate enough for hunting.
